During my first year of riding I needed to purchase a lot of gear and only one biker friend as a resource for advice. Many times I just had to make the best decision I could and hope for the best. At that time I also had a very small budget for gear, so sale items were always on my radar.
It was the fall of 2004 and I knew I needed some gloves as the weather began to get cooler. I also realized it would be nice to have waterproof gloves. My friend suggested I look at Cycle Gear for gloves.
Being ignorant concerning motorcycle gear I was surprised by the vast number of styles and brands of gloves not to mention the wide range in prices. I was somewhat overwhelmed. I scoured the sales rack and found a Joe Rocket glove claiming it had a waterproof liner. The glove was made of leather and cloth and the leather was used in appropriately strategic locations. There was a hook and loop adjustment at the wrist and an adjustable gauntlet opening that allows customization. I liked the fit, the look, and the price. I became the proud owner of a pair of yellow/black Joe Rocket gloves. (I don't remember the exact price, but I know it was under $30)

A little dirty and some slight wear, but still in good shape
Now 6 1/2 years later I am still wearing the gloves. Over the years I have purchased other gloves for the hot summer and the colder winter days. The gloves turned to be good for the spring and autumn (and the milder winter days). They have kept my fingers dry during many miles in the rain. On my first really big motorcycle trip to Colorado we experienced a lot of rain. The shell was water-resistant, but not waterproof. The gloves got heavy with rain, but the linings were waterproof and kept the hands dry.
6 year old Joe Rocket gloves
In good shape with some wear showing on the middle finger
For quite some time these were my primary gloves. I would wear them with an additional glove liner when the weather was colder. They have been very durable and have held up well with only slight signs of wear on the fingertips. The quality of the materials and craftsmanship has proven to be top notch.
The leather has held up great.
With my son and I scheduled to purchase gloves, boots, and riding pants for him I will be inclined to go with Joe Rocket gloves. My experience with Joe Rocket gloves has been great - I am a happy customer.Connect and follow Biker Oz on the following:
